Radio endorsements have been fascinating to me for the last 20 years or so. I guess the ones I was first really conscious of were the Rush Limbugh Snapple and Ruths Chris ads. I also remember Howard Stern’s Heineken ads and Vermont Teddy Bear endorsements. I mention it somewhere in this blog, but the amazing thing about Stern’s long relationship with Heineken is that HE DOESN’T EVEN LIKE BEER. But he must have sold Heineken by the truckload.
Now, ask me to name one produced radio ad with actors from 10 or more years ago. Actually, don’t ask: it will be a waste of both of our time.
It’s this power of personality which completely intrigues me. I’m amazed at the results that radio hosts, especially on the AM side, can drive through endorsements. I’m constantly aware of the companies that radio hosts take on. I’m also amazed when a national endorser, like Stern, endorsers a company that is nowhere near where he lives, like when Sten endorsed Sit ‘N Sleep in SoCal.
Am I the only one this gets into this stuff? Maybe. That’s ok. This blog is still fun.
If you’re a fan of the big personalities in radio, you may like my takes on their shows and their endorsement ads. If you’re an advertiser looking to break the creative clutter of thousands of boring, produced ads, maybe I can help you. I’ve certainly helped the company where I’ve worked and a handful of others discover this very important marketing tool.
If you have a moment, hit me with an email and let me know what you think of the content here and how it can be better.
Again, this is fun for me, but I hope it can be useful to whoever stumbles across the site. And then maybe I can get your endorsement
